Lesson 4
The fourth energy center is the heart chakra. The color is green, the element is Air, and it sits at the center of the chest. This is where love lives â and everything that comes with it. Compassion, kindness, selflessness, gratitude, and most of all, forgiveness.
When this center is open, gratitude comes naturally. The big things and the small things. There is a generosity of spirit â giving of time, giving of attention, giving from the heart without keeping score. Loving is easy in some directions. Loving babies, loving nature. But the people closest to us â our children, our families, our partners â that is where love gets tested. That is where it asks something of us.
When the heart chakra is closed, the signs are hard to miss. Anger becomes a default expression. People isolate themselves. They carry grudges, they blame, and they stop giving â because when a person does not feel loved, the ability to offer love shuts down with it. That is a deeply painful place to live.
And hearts do get broken. Families break them. Relationships break them. Loss breaks them â the death of someone loved, a divorce, a rejection that never fully healed. No one moves through this world without heartache. The question is not whether the heart will be wounded, but whether it stays closed afterward.
Opening a closed heart center almost always begins with forgiveness.
Forgiving others, and forgiving ourselves. Sometimes that work requires professional support, and there is no shame in that. But the work is worth doing, because an open heart gives a person a reason to face the day.
Now, consider what keeps a heart closed. Underneath the anger, the grudges, the isolation â there are thoughts. "They should have been there for me." "I will never trust anyone again." "I don't deserve to be loved." These are not just emotional scars. They are beliefs, carried forward and rarely examined.
Each one of those beliefs can be met with a question. Each one can be written down, looked at honestly, and explored. When a stressful thought about love or loss or forgiveness is questioned rather than protected, the heart begins to open â not because someone forced it, but because the belief that was holding it shut no longer felt true.
